This bill mandates that various health insurance plans and contracts in New Jersey, including those from hospital service corporations, medical service corporations, health service corporations, individual and group policies, individual and small employer health benefits plans, and health maintenance organization (HMO) enrollee agreements, must provide coverage for headpieces, whether made of human or artificial hair, for patients undergoing chemotherapy treatment for cancer. This coverage is contingent upon a written recommendation from the patient's treating physician confirming the medical necessity of the headpiece to conceal scalp hair loss. The bill specifies that this new coverage will be subject to the same limitations and guidelines as other prostheses covered under the respective plans and will take effect 60 days after enactment.
