This bill requires every law enforcement agency in New Jersey to provide crime victims, or their next-of-kin if the victim is deceased or unable to request it, with a copy of the police report, breathalyzer or toxicology test results, or autopsy report related to the crime, either electronically or in hard copy, free of charge. This change amends existing law that outlines various services law enforcement agencies and victim-witness advocacy offices must provide to victims and witnesses, such as orientation, case status updates, and information on available services and compensation. The bill specifically adds this provision for free report provision to the list of victim rights. The bill will take effect on the first day of the third month after it is enacted.
