This bill amends Section 29-2204 of the Revised Statutes Cumulative Supplement, 2018, which relates to the imposition of sentences for felonies. The key provisions are: 1) For felonies other than Class III, IIIA, or IV felonies, the court must set a minimum and maximum term within the limits provided by law, where the minimum term cannot be less than the minimum or mandatory minimum provided in Section 28-105 and cannot be greater than one-third of the maximum term. 2) For Class IB felonies with a maximum term of life, the minimum term must be any term of years not less than the minimum limit provided by law. 3) For Class IA felonies with a maximum term of life, the minimum term must be either a term of life imprisonment or any term of years not less than the minimum limit provided by law, after considering mitigating factors if the defendant was under 18 at the time of the crime. The bill also repeals the original Section 29-2204.
