AI Summary
This bill amends the Illinois School Code to establish new requirements for law enforcement officers, school resource officers, or other school security personnel before detaining and questioning a student under 18 years old on school grounds who is suspected of committing a criminal act. The key provisions require the officer to: (1) notify or attempt to notify the student's parent or guardian; (2) document the notification attempt; (3) ensure a parent/guardian or school personnel is present during questioning; and (4) if possible, have a law enforcement officer trained in youth interactions present. The bill does not limit an officer's authority to make an arrest on school grounds and provides exceptions for urgent situations where immediate action is necessary.
