This Resolution establishes the Task Force on Access to Broadband High-Speed Internet Service to address the significant lack of high-speed internet, commonly known as broadband, in rural areas of Louisiana, which is seen as a crucial element for economic opportunity and quality of life. The task force will investigate the current obstacles preventing rural residents from accessing this service and will develop strategies to ensure that broadband is available throughout the entire state. The task force will be composed of various officials and representatives from state agencies, public service commissions, and industry associations, including the president of the Senate, the chairman of the Louisiana Public Service Commission, and representatives from business councils and telecommunications groups, with legislative members receiving standard per diem and travel expenses. The task force is required to submit a report of its findings and recommendations to the Senate by March 1, 2020.
