This bill requires health insurers, health maintenance organizations, and corporations providing health care coverage in Virginia to provide coverage for hearing aids and related services for children 18 years of age or younger. The coverage includes payment of up to $1,500 per hearing-impaired ear every 24 months, with the insured able to choose a more expensive hearing aid and pay the difference. The bill prohibits insurers from imposing any copayments, fees, or other conditions on this coverage, and the coverage must be recommended by an otolaryngologist (ear, nose, and throat specialist). The provisions of this bill apply to policies, contracts, and plans delivered, issued for delivery, or renewed in Virginia on and after January 1, 2021.
