This bill amends the Mississippi Code to delete the repealer on the statute that requires counties to levy a forest acreage tax. The forest acreage tax is a special tax of 2 cents per acre on all timbered and uncultivatable lands in the county, with an additional tax increase over 3 years to a total of 9 cents per acre. The bill exempts certain homeowners from this tax and specifies that the provisions do not apply to counties not already levying the tax as of January 1, 1989. The bill extends the sunset date for this tax from June 30, 2020 to June 30, 2023.
