This bill amends Section 93-17-12 of the Mississippi Code of 1972 to revise the fee for court-ordered home studies performed by the Mississippi Department of Child Protection Services (formerly the Department of Human Services) or any other entity. The bill increases the minimum fee from $350 to $1,250 per household for each home study, and it allows the judge to order the fee to be paid by one or both parents or the guardian. If the court determines that the parents or guardian are unable to pay, the judge may waive the fee and the Department of Child Protection Services will cover the cost of the home study. The bill takes effect on July 1, 2020.
