This bill amends Section 43-21-605 of the Mississippi Code to revise the conditions under which a child may be committed to the state training school or ordered into secure detention as a disposition. Specifically, it prohibits a child under the age of 12 from being held in secure detention as a disposition unless the child has been adjudicated delinquent for a crime of violence. The bill also provides additional requirements for disposition orders that commit a child to a detention center for 90 days, including that the disposition must be the least restrictive alternative and consider the child's rehabilitative needs.
