Bill Summary
AN ACT in relation to providing that certain schools shall receive tuition payments from the state for any period of time such schools are required to close in response to the outbreak of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)
AI Summary
This bill provides that certain schools, including approved private schools serving students with disabilities, special act school districts, state-supported schools, and approved preschool special programs, will not experience financial harm if they are unable to operate for the full 180 session days or experience a reduction in enrollment during the 2019-2020 school year due to the COVID-19 state of emergency declared in New York. The 180-session-day requirement will be waived, and the per diem and/or tuition rate will be adjusted by the state education department, with no approval required by the division of the budget, to ensure these schools do not face financial consequences.
