Bill Summary
AN ACT To amend chapters 163 and 173, RSMo, by adding thereto two new sections relating to participation in athletic competitions.
AI Summary
This bill establishes guidelines for student participation in athletic contests organized by sex. It amends Missouri state law to prohibit school districts, charter schools, and public higher education institutions from allowing students to compete in athletic competitions designated for the opposite biological sex, as stated on their birth certificate or another government record. The bill makes exceptions to allow female students to compete in male-designated athletic competitions if no corresponding female competition is available. It also states that schools that violate these provisions will not receive state funding. The bill aims to further the governmental interest of ensuring sufficient athletic opportunities for female students to remedy past discrimination based on sex.
