This bill, by adding Section 6254.30 to the Government Code, prohibits state and local law enforcement agencies from demanding proof of a victim's legal presence in the United States to obtain information that the agency is otherwise required to disclose under subdivision (f) of Section 6254, which generally pertains to public records. However, if the agency requires identification to release this information, it must accept a current driver's license or identification card from any U.S. state, a current U.S. or foreign passport, or a current Matricula Consular card, which is an identification card issued by Mexican consulates in the U.S. This provision aims to ensure that victims of incidents can access necessary information without facing barriers related to their immigration status.
