This bill modifies regulations regarding the use of body-gripping traps, which are devices designed to capture animals by clamping down on their bodies. Specifically, it prohibits setting, placing, or operating these traps, except for those used in water (watersets), within 150 feet of the center line of any public road or public trail. The bill also retains existing restrictions on body-gripping traps with jaw openings between 6-1/2 and 7-1/2 inches on public lands and waters, unless specific safety measures are taken, such as placing the trap in a recessed enclosure, keeping bait at least 20 feet away, or elevating the trap at least three feet off the ground.
