AI Summary

This bill, known as the Kate's Law Stop Illegal Reentry Act, amends the Immigration and Nationality Act to significantly increase penalties for individuals who illegally reenter the United States after being removed. Specifically, it raises the maximum prison term for a first-time illegal reentry after removal from two years to five years. The bill also introduces a ten-year maximum prison term for those who reenter after being removed three or more times, and establishes a mandatory minimum five-year prison sentence for individuals who reenter after being removed following a conviction for an aggravated felony (a serious crime defined by law) or after two or more prior convictions for illegal reentry. The term "removal" is also clarified to include situations where an alien agrees to be removed, even during or outside of a criminal trial.
