This bill would authorize the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission to issue special license plates for a motor vehicle owned or leased by a recipient of the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal. This medal is issued by the Governor to residents of New Jersey for especially meritorious military service. It is the highest civilian medal provided by the State of New Jersey. The special plate would contain a symbol and appropriate markings depicting the medal. It would be available to recipients of the medal upon payment of a one-time fee of $15, in addition to any other motor vehicle registration charges required by law. Under the bill, the surviving spouse of a medal recipient would be permitted to continue to display the special plates on a motor vehicle after the death of the recipient.
