This bill would extend the property tax exemption now granted to honorably discharged veterans on the homes that they own, to residential units held by honorably discharged veterans in continuing care retirement communities. Current law establishes that the value of the property tax deduction is $250. The bill will not become operative until the approval by the voters of a constitutional amendment authorizing veterans honorably discharged or released under honorable circumstances from active service in time of war who are residents of continuing care retirement communities and their surviving spouses to receive the veterans' property tax deduction.
