The bill adds convictions of unlawfully possessing a weapon to the list of crimes that statutorily prohibits a person from buying or owning a firearm. Currently, persons convicted of homicide, aggravated assault, aggravated sexual assault or simple sexual assault, kidnapping, robbery, burglary, arson, escape, extortion, child endangerment, the illegal manufacture or sale of a controlled dangerous substance, possessing a prohibited weapon, or possessing a weapon for an unlawful purpose are prohibited from purchasing, owning, possessing or controlling a firearm.
