This bill revises the "Notaries Public Act of 1979" and modifies the notary public application process. Currently, when seeking an appointment or renewal of a notary public commission, a person must have his application endorsed by a member of the Legislature or the State Treasurer or Assistant State Treasurer. This bill would eliminate the option for endorsement by a member of the Legislature. In addition, the bill updates the statute to reflect the transfer of responsibility from the Secretary of State to the State Treasurer as a result of Reorganization Plan 004-1998. The bill would take effect immediately.
