This bill makes pointing or displaying a firearm, pointing, displaying, or using an imitation firearm, or using or activating a laser sighting system or device at any Department of Corrections employee, county corrections officer, juvenile corrections officer, State juvenile facility employee, juvenile detention staff member, juvenile detention officer, probation officer or any sheriff, undersheriff, or sheriff's officer, a crime of aggravated assault. Aggravated assault under paragraphs (9), (10), and (11) of subsection b. of N.J.S.2C:12-1 is a crime of the third degree. A crime of the third degree is punishable by a term of three to five years imprisonment, a maximum fine of $15,000, or both.
