This bill allows gross income taxpayers to use their returns to make voluntary contributions to the chartered local councils of the Boy Scouts of America in New Jersey. With over 100 years of experience in developing youth for a lifetime of community service, personal fitness, and leadership, the Boy Scouts of America continue to offer unique educational programming that prepares youth for a healthy and productive life. In New Jersey today, scouts still take the oath to be trustworthy, loyal, helpful, friendly, courteous, kind, obedient, cheerful, thrifty, brave, clean, and reverent. In support of the Boy Scouts mission in New Jersey, this bill allows gross income taxpayers to make donations to the chartered local councils of the Boy Scouts of America in New Jersey on their tax returns. As a depository for the donations, the bill establishes the Boy Scouts of America Councils in New Jersey Fund. The bill directs the fund deposits be distributed in equal amounts among the chartered local councils of the Boy Scouts of America in New Jersey. The bill entrusts the Monmouth Council of Boy Scouts of America to administer the distribution. The bill authorizes the Division of Taxation to retain sufficient receipts from the donations to cover the costs of related administration. The bill applies to taxable years beginning on or after the date of enactment.
