This bill amends existing Alabama law to allow for the hunting of whitetail deer and feral swine using bait, which was previously prohibited for most protected animals. Specifically, it modifies sections of the Code of Alabama 1975 that previously banned the use of bait, such as corn or other grains, to lure animals for hunting. The new provisions clarify that this baiting prohibition does not apply to whitetail deer or feral swine, and landowners or their authorized agents can legally bait their property for these animals, provided the bait is placed in a container, tub, trough-type feeder, or timed mechanical feeder, not directly on the ground. The bill also makes conforming changes to another section that prohibited various hunting methods, including "baited fields," by exempting whitetail deer and feral swine from this restriction as well.
