This bill provides that the societal benefits charge permitted under section 12 of P.L.1999, c.23 (C.48:3-60) shall be used as the revenue source for funding 75 percent of the costs of an energy audit, as determined to be appropriate by the Board of Public Utilities (board), conducted in any commercial building on or after the effective date of the bill. The board may order, pursuant to its rules and regulations, an increase or decrease in the societal benefits charge to reflect the inclusion of this program funded by the societal benefits charge and any changes in the costs to the electric or gas public utility or any entity under contract with the utility, of conducting energy audits.
