This bill establishes a pilot program to create an Internet-based electronic registry, called the acute psychiatric bed registry, to track the availability of acute psychiatric beds in specified counties. This registry is intended to help identify and designate psychiatric health facilities for the temporary detention and treatment of individuals who meet certain criteria, such as being a danger to themselves or others, as outlined in the Lanterman-Petris-Short Act. Participating psychiatric health facilities will be required to designate an employee to report bed availability and serve as a contact person for the registry. The bill also mandates that the State Department of Public Health submit reports to the Legislature and the public regarding the registry's progress and impact, and it specifies that violations of these provisions will not be considered a crime, with the entire program set to be repealed on January 1, 2022.
