  • Allows School of Osteopathic Medicine at Rowan University to maintain principal clinical affiliation with either osteopathic or allopathic hospital.

2016-2017 Regular Session
This bill amends the "New Jersey Medical and Health Sciences Education Restructuring Act," P.L.2012, c.45, to allow the School of Osteopathic Medicine, which was transferred under that act from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey to Rowan University, to maintain a principal clinical affiliation with either an osteopathic or allopathic hospital. Under current law, the school's principal clinical affiliation must be with an osteopathic hospital. The bill eliminates reference to "osteopathic" in regard to the school's principal clinical affiliation. This bill provides the School of Osteopathic Medicine with the flexibility which is required due to recent changes in New Jersey's health care industry, including the realignment and merger of several hospital networks. This change will allow the school to better fulfill its medical education obligations and responsibilities.
