The bill would increase surrogate fees. Surrogate fees were not increased when the civil and criminal court filing fees were increased by court rule pursuant to statutory authority under sections 12 through 19 of P.L.2014, c.31 (C.2B:1-7 through C.2B:1-13). In this bill, the fees associated with services provided by the county surrogate including matters such as guardianship and probate of wills would be increased by approximately 30 percent. It is the sponsor's intent to revise surrogate fees in a balanced and fair manner in order to maintain the availability of the courts to all litigants. As is the current practice, the funds generated from the increased surrogate fees are to be used by the county in which the fees are collected.
