This bill designates a portion of State Highway Route 18 in the Township of East Brunswick Township as the "State Trooper Werner Foerster Memorial Interchange" to honor the memory of State Trooper Werner Foerster, who was tragically killed in the line of duty during a traffic stop while coming to the aide of another State Trooper on the New Jersey Turnpike. In 2005, the overpass on State Highway Route 18 that intersects the New Jersey Turnpike in the Township of East Brunswick was dedicated in State Trooper Foerster's honor as the "Werner Foerster Overpass." However, re-designating the overpass and updating the sign bearing the designation would provide a more fitting tribute to State Trooper Foerster. Consistent with Department of Transportation policy and other road designations, the bill provides that State or other public funds are not to be used for producing, purchasing, or erecting signs bearing the designation for the "State Trooper Werner Foerster Memorial Interchange." The Commissioner of Transportation is authorized to receive financial assistance from private sources.
