This bill aims to protect immigrant students, faculty, and staff at California's public and private institutions of higher education. It requires the California State University, California Community Colleges, and private colleges that receive Cal Grant funding to, among other things: refrain from disclosing personal information of students, faculty, and staff except in limited circumstances; notify the campus community if immigration officers are expected to enter or have entered the campus; comply with immigration officer requests for access only with a judicial warrant; maintain a list of legal services providers for students; and ensure that undocumented students can retain their eligibility for financial aid and other benefits if they are impacted by federal immigration actions. The bill also requests the University of California to take similar measures to the fullest extent consistent with state and federal law.
