This bill amends Wyoming's existing law regarding veterans' preference in public employment. It specifies that veterans and surviving spouses of deceased veterans shall have preference prior to the interview process when applying for positions in public departments, which includes state agencies, local governments, school districts, and other public entities. The bill also modifies the residency requirement, allowing veterans who have been residents of Wyoming for at least one year at any point prior to applying for the position to be eligible for the preference. Additionally, the bill sets a 5% advantage for veterans and a 10% advantage for veterans with a 10% or more service-connected disability when a numerical scoring system is used in the hiring process. The bill applies to positions initially advertised on or after July 1, 2017, and takes effect on that same date.
