This Resolution officially designates the second week of May in 2017 as Child Care Awareness Week in Illinois, recognizing the significant role that child care programs play in the development of young children and their readiness for school, as well as the positive impact quality child care has on employer productivity and employee retention. The resolution acknowledges that millions of children under five spend a substantial amount of time in child care each week, and highlights research showing the long-term benefits of high-quality early learning experiences, such as improved academic performance, higher educational attainment, and increased earning potential. It also draws inspiration from the Week of the Young Child, an annual event sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC), to bring attention to the needs of young children and their families and to honor those who provide essential care and attention to the state's children.
