This bill directs the Division of Travel and Tourism in the Department of State to establish a 9/11 Memorial Registry to provide the location and condition of all 9/11 memorials in the State owned, operated, or maintained by a governmental entity. Under this bill, the division would develop and maintain an interactive Internet website providing Information concerning 9/11 memorials in the State. The bill requires the division to update the website whenever a governmental entity establishes a new 9/11 memorial. Additionally, the bill requires the division to accept submissions from the public recommending for inclusion on the 9/11 Memorial Registry 9/11 memorials not owned, operated, or maintained by a governmental entity through an electronic submission form made available by the division on its Internet website. The terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001 caused the largest loss of life from a foreign attack on American soil, and the largest single loss of rescue personnel in American history. Communities throughout the State have erected monuments to remember and honor those that served and died on September 11, 2001. This bill would create a Statewide registry of 9/11 memorials erected in New Jersey.
