Bill Summary
As introduced, this bill establishes the Office of Open Government as the body to resolve appeals regarding Freedom of Information Act requests. It further expands what a reasonable search by a public body is. It requires the development of a web portal for the public to access certain information that should be maintained by the Office of the Chief Technology Officer in collaboration with the Chief Data Officer. It establishes criteria under which public records shall be provided. It expands the amount of time a public body has to respond to a FOIA request. It also creates uniform procedures for processing and tracking requests for public records. It identifies what is considered an open meeting. It establishes the right to administrative appeals as well as civil action to resolve disputes regarding the availability of public information.
