This bill adds discrimination based on gender identity as an unlawful housing practice under the Virginia Fair Housing Law. The bill defines "gender identity" as the gender-related identity, appearance, or other gender-related characteristics of an individual, with or without regard to the individual's designated sex at birth. The bill also updates various sections of the law to include "gender identity" as a protected characteristic, alongside existing protections for race, color, religion, national origin, sex, elderliness, familial status, and handicap.
