Making it a felony to knowingly expose another individual to HIV

This bill makes it a felony to knowingly expose another individual to HIV (human immunodeficiency virus) without that person's informed consent. The bill amends existing law to impose a prison sentence of one to five years and a fine of $1,000 to $5,000 for anyone who knowingly has HIV and willfully performs an act that exposes another person to the virus without their informed consent. The court may also order the convicted individual to pay for the victim's medical, psychological, or psychiatric treatment resulting from the exposure.
