This bill proposes to implement automatic voter registration in Arizona starting January 1, 2019. The key provisions are: 1. All individuals applying for or renewing a driver's license who are eligible to vote will be automatically registered to vote, unless they explicitly choose to opt-out. Applicants will also be offered the opportunity to register with a political party. 2. The Department of Transportation will be required to maintain secure records of the documentation provided by applicants to prove U.S. citizenship, and to transmit voter registration information to the statewide voter registration database. 3. The Secretary of State will establish security, privacy, and technology policies to govern access to the statewide voter registration database, including restrictions on the use of voter information and requirements for transmitting data to and from other state agencies. The Secretary will also be required to produce an annual public report on the implementation of automatic voter registration.
