This bill would amend an existing law that requires pet store operators to only sell live dogs, cats, and rabbits obtained from public animal shelters, humane societies, or rescue groups. The bill would additionally require pet store operators to maintain detailed records on the health, status, and disposition of each animal sold for at least two years, and make these records available to law enforcement, animal control, and prospective or actual buyers. The bill would also require pet stores to provide the pet return policy and any veterinary records to buyers. Additionally, the organization providing the animal to the pet store would be required to provide information about the animal upon the pet store's request. The bill would impose a civil penalty of $500 for each violation of these provisions.
