This bill amends the existing law in Massachusetts to replace the term "management" with "literacy" in the state's financial literacy standards. It also adds a new section that establishes financial literacy standards to promote an understanding of personal finance topics such as loans, credit card debt, home buying, saving and investing, and evaluating financial information. The bill allows school districts to incorporate these financial literacy standards into existing curriculum, and directs the state Department of Education to make resources available to assist schools in implementing these standards. The bill also allows the Department to seek funding to support these efforts and requires periodic reviews of the financial literacy programs being offered in the state.
