This bill amends the education law to require that each student in public schools undergo a heart examination, such as an electrocardiogram, and that the health certificate furnished by the student's physician, physician assistant, or nurse practitioner state whether the student is fit to participate in physical education or other physical or athletic activities. The bill also requires that the health certificate include the results of the heart examination, in addition to the existing requirements to include the student's body mass index (BMI) and weight status category. The bill aims to promote the health and safety of students participating in physical activities in public schools.
