This Concurrent Resolution expresses the profound sorrow of the Mississippi Legislature for the loss of Mississippi Highway Patrol Trooper Kenneth "Josh" Smith of Walnut, Mississippi, who passed away on September 30, 2018, while serving the public. The resolution extends the deepest sympathy of the Legislature to his bereaved family, including his wife Chelsea, son Bryson, and daughter Lilly, and acknowledges his dedicated service to the Mississippi Highway Patrol since 2007, including his work in the Special Operations Group (SOG) and on the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team. It also notes the widespread attendance at his funeral by elected officials and law enforcement from various agencies, the lowering of state and American flags in his honor, and the participation of the Mississippi Highway Patrol Honor Guard, a team that honors fallen law enforcement officers.
