This bill designates specified river segments in the Wood-Pawcatuck watershed in Rhode Island and Connecticut as scenic, recreational, or wild rivers and as components of the National Wild and Scenic Rivers System. The bill requires the Secretary of the Interior, in cooperation with the Wood-Pawcatuck Wild and Scenic Rivers Stewardship Council, to manage the river segments in accordance with the Wood-Pawcatuck Wild and Scenic Rivers Stewardship Plan. The bill also authorizes the Secretary to enter into cooperative agreements with the states, local governments, the Stewardship Council, and nonprofit organizations to provide for the long-term protection, preservation, and enhancement of the river segments. Additionally, the bill prohibits the Secretary from acquiring any land by condemnation and considers the zoning ordinances of the affected towns as satisfying the standards and requirements for land management under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act.
