This bill amends existing laws to add domestic assault and battery to the list of violent crimes that require a minimum 85% sentence, removes a penalty option for certain prohibited acts, and sets an effective date of November 1, 2019. Specifically, it adds domestic assault and battery as a violent crime that requires the defendant to serve at least 85% of their sentence before becoming eligible for parole or earned credits. It also deletes the penalty option of up to one year in county jail for domestic abuse that results in great bodily injury.
