This bill amends the administrative code of New York City to change the rules around landlords recovering possession of certain housing accommodations. Specifically, the bill states that landlords cannot recover possession if the tenant is 62 years of age or older, has been a tenant for 20 years or more, or has a permanent disability that prevents them from substantial gainful employment, unless the landlord offers an equivalent or superior housing accommodation at the same or lower rent in a nearby area. The bill also limits how landlords can use the recovered units for a period of 3 years. The amendments made by this bill will expire on the same date as the overall law governing rent regulation in New York City.
