This bill requires public schools in New York to offer plant-based food options as an alternative to every meal or snack offered in their food service, upon request by a student or their parent/guardian. The plant-based options, which are defined as food and beverages free of animal products, must be provided at no additional cost to the student. Schools must respond reasonably to such requests and consult with the school district nutrition advisory committee in implementing this policy. The bill will take effect one year after it becomes law.
