This bill creates the Electronic Communications and Device Privacy Act, which prohibits government entities from compelling the production of or access to electronic communication information from service providers or electronic device information from any person or entity other than the authorized possessor of the device, except in certain limited circumstances such as pursuant to a lawful warrant. The bill also requires government entities to provide notice to recipients when obtaining electronic information, and allows for court orders to temporarily delay such notice. The bill provides for remedies and causes of action to enforce its provisions.
