This bill aims to reorganize school districts statewide in Washington. It requires the Washington State School Directors' Association to develop and implement a comprehensive statewide reorganization initiative to increase efficiency, cost savings, and improve the learning environment for students. The bill establishes a Commission on Statewide School District Reorganization to develop a plan for reorganizing school districts, with the goal of no more than 150 districts in the state. The plan must be submitted to the legislature by December 1, 2024, and the legislature can only amend the proposed district boundaries by a two-thirds vote. The bill also allows school districts to appeal the reorganization plan or propose alternative consolidation of services to achieve efficiencies. If the legislature does not approve the reorganization plan by June 30, 2025, the provisions establishing the commission and the reorganization process will expire.
