This bill establishes the offenses of reckless endangerment of an emergency service person in the first and second degrees. Specifically, it defines "emergency service person" to include firefighters, police officers, peace officers, emergency services professionals, code enforcement officers, fire inspection personnel, and building inspectors. The bill creates a new offense of reckless endangerment of an emergency service person in the second degree, which occurs when a person, without a required building permit, alters a building in a way that impedes egress during a fire or other emergency, resulting in injury to an emergency service person. The bill also establishes a more serious offense of reckless endangerment of an emergency service person in the first degree, which applies in cases where the conduct results in the death of an emergency service person or the person has a prior conviction for the first or second degree offense.
