This bill amends existing law to revise the definition of "utility type vehicle" (UTV). Specifically, it removes the previous requirements for a UTV to have a maximum weight of less than 2,000 pounds and a maximum width of less than 74 inches. Instead, it defines a UTV as a recreational motor vehicle other than an all-terrain vehicle, motorbike, or snowmobile that is designed and capable of traveling over designated roads, has four or more tires, and has a wheelbase of 110 inches or less. The bill also clarifies that a UTV must have a minimum width of 50 inches, a minimum weight of at least 900 pounds, or a wheelbase of over 61 inches. This change is intended to update the legal definition of UTVs to better reflect the current design and capabilities of these types of off-highway vehicles.
