This bill amends the Texas Education Code to require the State Board of Education to integrate positive character traits, such as courage, trustworthiness, integrity, and responsibility, into the essential knowledge and skills for kindergarten through grade 12 students. The bill also requires each school district and open-enrollment charter school to adopt a character education program that includes the specified positive character traits and to consult with a committee of parents, educators, and community members in developing or selecting the program. The bill applies beginning with the 2019-2020 school year.
