This bill amends several sections of the Iowa Code related to the issuance, denial, suspension, or revocation of permits to carry weapons. Key changes include: (1) changing the requirement for a nonprofessional permit to carry weapons from "shall" be issued to "may" be issued, giving the issuing officer more discretion; (2) allowing the issuing officer to suspend a permit if the officer determines the conditions for issuance no longer exist, in addition to cases of arrest or ineligibility; and (3) allowing the issuing officer to revoke a permit if the officer finds the permit holder was not qualified at the time of issuance or provided materially false information, in addition to cases of disqualifying convictions or findings. The bill also addresses the awarding of court costs and attorney fees in appeals related to the denial, suspension, or revocation of permits.
