This bill, known as the "County Sanctuary Policy Prohibition Act," prohibits counties in Michigan from enacting or enforcing any law, ordinance, policy, or rule that limits local officials from communicating or cooperating with federal officials regarding the immigration status of individuals. The bill gives individuals who reside in a county that violates this act the ability to bring legal action against the county, and it also allows the state Attorney General to investigate and enforce the act. If a court determines that a county's law, ordinance, policy, or rule violates the act, the court must issue an injunction, order the county to amend or repeal the violation, and award damages, costs, and attorney's fees to the party challenging the violation.
