This bill aims to allow firearms-qualified tax division investigators to carry firearms. The bill establishes a criminal investigation division within the state Tax Division, consisting of up to 12 investigators and support staff. These investigators are granted the lawful powers of the Division of Public Safety, except for the power to carry firearms, unless they have successfully completed a firearms training and certification program equivalent to that of state police. The bill also establishes a special audits division within the Tax Division to ensure compliance with tax laws and rules, particularly for individuals or businesses located outside of West Virginia, who have a higher rate of noncompliance.
